More news on "Shelter"
Hey guys! I'm really really sorry for the lack of updates! We have been truly busy these days but we promise we're gonna keep up with Jonathan's news! We have some new photos to share with all of you so stay tuned! Here's some "news' on Jonathan's next movie, Shelter: "Bjorn Stein and Mans Marlind have found a civilized, common-sense way to make a movie: by co-directing it. They flip a coin to see who gets the first day and take turns from there. They do all the pre-production and post-production together, but each directs every other day and serves as "best buddy" on the off days. That is how they've been making "Shelter," with Julianne Moore as a psychiatrist and Jonathan Rhys Meyers as a patient, in Pittsburgh. The movie, also starring Jeffrey DeMunn, Frances Conroy, Nate Corddry and 9-year-old Brooklynn Proulx, is scheduled to finish shooting today outside Pittsburgh. NALA Films, which financed and produced "In the Valley of Elah," starring Oscar nominee Tommy Lee Jones, is making the movie, budgeted at $20 million to $25 million. It's too soon to say when "Shelter" could land in theaters because it doesn't have a distributor, but producers are hoping for early next year. "It's just such a perfect city to shoot our film in," said Darlene Caamano Loquet, president of production/producer of NALA Films. "It was set here, and we're getting everything we need, and the crew's amazing. We're having a great time, and the film looks great." Now that production is almost over and co-director Stein has a handle on how it's turning out, he calls it a "very intense, super-scary thriller" or a "drama that happens to be a horror movie." Details of the movie, written by Michael Cooney ("Identity"), are being kept under wraps, but this much is known: Moore plays psychiatrist Dr. Cara Jessup, who has made a career out of defying the notion of multiple personality disorders and providing such convincing courtroom testimony that many defendants have been sentenced to death. Jessup is devoted to science but never lost faith in God, even after her husband was murdered. Her young daughter (Proulx) is a non-believer. After a particularly troubling court case, Jessup's psychiatrist father (DeMunn) introduces her to his new patient (Rhys Meyers). As Jessup explores his past, she starts to question her beliefs in science and God and finds her family in danger. "Shelter" is wrapping at a propitious time as another Moore movie, Fernando Meirelles' "Blindness," is about to open the Cannes Film Festival and Rhys Meyers is making Showtime subscribers swoon over his King Henry VIII on "The Tudors." Stein, whose knowledge of Pittsburgh before coming here had been limited to such movies as "Flashdance," "Night of the Living Dead" and "The Deer Hunter," got to know the region while scouting and shooting. "For me, as a Swede, it's how America looks for me. It's very beautiful, and from what I gather so far, of all the cities I've been in, it has more texture to it than most other cities, I think, which is very, very beautiful. "We fall in love with everything here, from old ads painted on walls and stuff like that, we find that immensely beautiful," alongside photogenic bridges, mountains and forests. Stein is 38 and Marlind 39, and they've been friends for 28 years. Both natives of Sweden, they met as boys during summer vacation when their parents hatched a scheme they would imitate. "I went to this little tennis school; he was there also. Our parents just looked at each other and said, 'Can you drive our kid every second day so we don't have to drive him every day?' So we got to sit in the same car, and then we became friends." " [READ MORE]

'Tudors' for third season
Showtime has given "The Tudors" a third-season pickup, just a few weeks after the drama series' sophomore bow. Production will begin June 16 in Dublin, Ireland, with series star Jonathan Rhys Meyers set to return as King Henry VIII. The number of episodes has yet to be determined for Season 3, which will follow the king as he weds third queen Jane Seymour (Anita Briem) and then Anne of Cleves (still to be cast). The announcement comes after Showtime recently reiterated its commitment to original programming. Following the news that the network wouldn't be renewing its output deals with Viacom-owned Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM -- which now will be launching a new TV channel and VOD service in fall 2009 -- Showtime is expected to invest some of the money earmarked for output deals into more original series. Along with "Tudors," Showtime originals include "Dexter" and "Weeds." " 'The Tudors' is now a fixture for us at Showtime, and we're on our way to completing the entire saga of all six wives of Henry VIII," Showtime president of entertainment Robert Greenblatt said.[READ MORE]

"Rhys Meyers to avoid comedy in future"
It seems Jonathan Rhys Meyers has had a humour by-pass. Though he’s appeared in 'Bend It Like Beckham' and Woody Allen’s 'Match Point', he says he has no wish to ever take on a funny role again. Since playing Henry Vlll in 'The Tudors', he now wants to concentrate on more serious roles, though he does add that he’s a terrible comedian: “I can’t be funny on cue and I don’t think I could do take 10 of a joke.” Source: BreakingNews.iol.ie.

'Catching up with Jonathan as he starts new season of 'Tudors''
"It's good to be Jonathan Rhys Meyers. This young actor - only 30, though acting since his teens - has hit his stride. He plays a new kind of Henry VIII in Showtime's opulent and sexy The Tudors. I met with Jonathan down in Manhattan's Soho, at the trendy 60 Thompson Street hotel. It was a chilly, rainy day, but Jonathan appeared wearing a tight, white T-shirt, cut to a deep clavicle-baring vee, a snug sweater over it - one button fastened to emphasize his small waist - and well-fitted jeans. He looked, head to toe, like a page from men's Vogue. He is impossibly handsome. His features are startlingly lush, the eyes, the famous mouth. Even if Jonathan weren't a famous actor, he'd stop any room he entered. The star is kinetic, and at first, almost disconcertingly intense. He laughs, "Oh, I know it. People always say to me, you're so jittery, you can't sit still, you're nervous. But I'm not nervous. I'm just a very excitable guy. I'm enthusiastic. I can't help myself." He says that when he made Mission Impossible III with Tom Cruise, he found somebody else with a similar powerful energy. "I had a great time on that, and when Tom and I were together it was like, whoosh, all the air in the room evaporated. " " [READ MORE]

'Rhys Meyers hits his stride'
(Thanks Palemino for the link to this article!) "IT'S GOOD to be King!" said Mel Brooks in "The History of the World, Part I." It's good to be Jonathan Rhys Meyers, too. This young actor -- only 30, though acting since his teens -- has hit his stride. He plays a new kind of Henry VIII in Showtime's opulent and sexy "The Tudors," which begins its second season Sunday. I met with Jonathan down in Manhattan's Soho, at the trendy 60 Thompson Street hotel. He looked, head to toe, like a page from men's Vogue. He is impossibly handsome. His features are startlingly lush; the eyes, the famous mouth. Like a matinee idol of years past -- Tyrone Power, perhaps -- even if Jonathan weren't a famous actor, he'd stop any room he entered. (The Dublin native began his career playing a glam-rocker in the cult classic "Velvet Goldmine" and he exudes a slightly decadent, ambiguous rock-star glamour.) The star is kinetic, and at first, almost disconcertingly intense. He laughs, "Oh, I know it. People always say to me, you're so jittery, you can't sit still, you're nervous. But I'm not nervous. I'm just a very excitable guy. I'm enthusiastic. I can't help myself." He says that when he made "Mission: Impossible III" with Tom Cruise, he found somebody else with a similar powerful energy. "I had a great time on that, and when Tom and I were together it was like, whoosh!, all the air in the room evaporated. He was terrific to work with because he is so committed and professional. I mean, 17 hours a day. You have to respect that."[READ MORE]

'Playing King: Jonathan Rhys Meyers'
On March 30, Showtime’s well-received period soap The Tudors returns for a second season of sex, papal intrigue, and beheadings, with steely-eyed brooder Jonathan Rhys Meyers as a thirtysomething Henry VIII. He spoke to Jada Yuan about acting like a tyrant. You’re Irish. Did you have any trepidation about playing the king of England? JONATHAN: Of course I did. Not looking like the guy was the huge thing. But I had trepidation about taking on the role of Elvis, and I look a hell of a lot more like Elvis than I do Henry. How has Henry changed this season? JONATHAN: Having made all the mistakes of his youth in season one, he’s a much harder, more volatile man. He had the weight of his entire country on his shoulders because of love. But really, what would happen to a love that had gone through all that? It’s got to put a strain on a relationship. Imagine if you wanted to go out with a guy, and you had to fight his parents for three years just to get into the marriage. You’d be like, “Is he really worth it?” And then you find out that he’s spending all his time with your friend Stephanie. He did seem awfully fickle with his women. JONATHAN: It’s not just a case of him being fickle. You read magazines on supermarket stalls, and some movie star is dating this person and then that person and then that person, and people are like, “Why do they hop from one to another?” Because they can! It’s that simple. Do you feel like the show is over the top with all the steamy sex? JONATHAN: Oh, come on. Sex is sex. These people didn’t have TVs, they didn’t have cars, they didn’t have iPods. They had sex. What else do you think they did? Got drunk? JONATHAN: Well, what do you do today? Drink and have sex. You live in New York City. You go out Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. But also remember that in that time, sex was very, very important. Sex changed nations.[READ MORE]
